I now have two research trips planned to Animal Kingdom for Kingdom Keepers #2 thanks to Jason at Imagineering.

I thought that Walt had planned where the clues were. At the age of 14, I can remember when the ride Winnie the Pooh opened, anbd even before that. (I dont live anywhere near any disney parks), Why did you pick that ride to feture a clue?
I was able to visit about 8 rides "backstage" and when the park was closed, and Winnie the Pooh was one I wanted to go inside, because my daughters enjoy it so much. Originally there was a huge sub plot about Hidden Mickeys in the novel (pulled by editors) and there's a great Hidden Mickey at the start of Winnie the Pooh, and that's how it ended up in the book.
In "The Kingdom Keepers", the book, of course, mainly takes place in the Magic Kingdom, but the book also takes place in MGM Studios in some chapters. Even though the sequel mainly takes place in the Animal Kingdom, will the book also take place in the other three parks as well?
Yes. In fact it will shift back and forth from the Magic Kingdom to the Animal Kingdom. It may venture into Epcot or MGM as well in order to get the story told.

do you have a release date for kingdom keepers 2. kingdom keepers is my favorite book of all time and i went to disney for my 13th birhtday over the summer and I went on all the rides you talked about in the book. I will never look at Its a Small world the same way again

This is kind of a random question but, what is Philby's real name?
I read Kingdom Keepers 4 times so far. I love it! It takes me 5 hours - 2 days to read it cause I can't seem to put it down. It's one of the best books I've read. Although,I've got a few questions.
1.What happened to Amanda and Jess?
2.Will Finn see A and J again in the next book?
3.What will you call the next book?
4.Who will be the main Overtaker in book 2?
5.Will Finn, Maybeck, Charlene, Philby, and Willa still be the main characters?
6.When, most likely, would book 2 be coming out.I want to know because I want to get it on the day that it is released.

Hi, I just got done reading Kingdom Keepers & Starcatchers. Great, great books. I got Shadowthieves today & can't wait to start it. great news about the Kingdom Keepers sequel. NO CURRENT PLANS for that, but I'll check out Hopper when I do research at the end of September.

is there going to be a kingdom keepers movie
Ridley, could you please not put any more ruiners in the next one? i loved the first one, but i was pretty upset with some of the stuff witnessed in the Utilidor and otherwise, regarding characters. Maybe it's because i'm perenially young at heart, but i hope you refrain from putting such stuff in the next one. But of course, it's entirely up to you.
I just googled Chernabog he is the coolest villan, u dont have to say but is he the overtaker, Hopper would be cool, or maybe Scar from Lion King. Im not sure if he's in Animal Kingdom, havent been there in a while. One more question, will they meet any Disney heros. I thought it would be cool if they fought alongside simba or someone.
I'd love for them to fight alongside Mickey in the finale of the last book, and fight alongside all the disney heroes until then. I really wish disney would make Disney Heroes a bigger franchise, because all i've seen that they've released are action figures and beach towels a few years ago...
but i digress...

Awesome book! The kids in my class were enthralled from beginning to end. Your descriptions and use of details of Disney really helped me to guide the students in their own writing. Can't wait for the next one. We are going to start Peter and the Starcatcher in the mean time.
omg! i loved the Kingdom Keepers so much =]
it made my summer reading so much funner. And it made the test fun too. I love the part where the "It's a small world" Dolls come alive. because i think they are evil =] so it was really funny to see that. when i saw it i screamed to my mom "I knew they were evil!!"
so when is Kingdom Keepers #2 comming out? i cant wait to read it. Is it going to be all in Animal Kingdom?

since about everyone on the page is giving some ideas for next books. I thought id give it a shot. how about like how many ever books you do make, you put other overtakers in the sequels and threequels and so on but on the last book have Maleficent come back! And Mickey could fight alongside the team and it could be a reinactment of like Fantasmic! I dont know if that makes sense but yeah.

If you're having troubble looking for another ride to explore, check out Expedition Everest. It'd be pretty cool having Finn being chased by the Yeti! And then you should go to Dinosaur. That would be sooooo cool.
Everest and Dino are on the LIST. Yes: I think you'll see both in the next Kingdom Keepers -- and oh... here's a hint: a certain witch (she's actually a fairy) will be reappearing.

Hey you guys, listen to this,
If they make a movie, another great pair of rides that could be included as clues could be, The Haunted Mansion and Alien Encounter.
the first time that philby, charlene and finn meet in their sleep, they could start to explore the park. they could add willa to the group and they could split up. then the alien from alien ncounter could come to life and try to eat them. It could chase them all over the attraction. In the mean while, the ghosts from the haunted mansion could haunt them and lead them to secret passage ways and extra rooms. the alien ride could be so badly thrashed that it could lead to it's renovation to stich's great escape.
you can also add in piretes of the carribean some where in too. jack, elizabeth and will turner can help them defeat barbosa. also amanda can some how be captured by maleficent and have the ability to cross over like the dhis.
ps. how old is the least possible age for the dhis?

I read all of the comments! I saw one that mentioned Mickey fighting with the team like in Fantasmic. Fantasmic is my FAVORITE thing in WDW, sometimes I even cry when I think about it because I miss it so much. (i am so lame) I think that is a brilliant idea! You should definitely consider a "Fantasmic" type thing in KK2. That would be great, a dream come true, if you will. Well, I cant wait!

I really do like the book the Kingdom Keepers and I hope there is a number 2 comes out. The first one was so amazing. I really do read books unless they are really good and your's was. I heard that you was planing on maaking a movie out of the book. I would like to know if I can get an audition for the part of your choice.( I would like finn because he fits me perfect. I am the right age for him so I can be on that level) I would like to act because I have been in many plays where I had to voice act, and also regular act where I have to memorize 5000 lines. I would like to be in this play. I wouldnt do this for any other book unless it was like your's. I would really like to make this movie happen so kids can enjoy it. You have made a wonderful book and I would like to see it come to the movies.

I'm re-reading kingdom keepers as I make my own "Kingdom Keepers Teaser". Its really cool looking now, and I might post it on You Tube! Kingdom Keepers is my ALL TIME FAVORITE book and trust me, nothing can top it. (accept for the sequel :)) Anyway, any news on when the new one is coming out? Also, has Disney said anything about the movie thing?

I am a "oh let's say 30 something" woman who LOVES all things Disney. My 4 kids my husband and I go to Disneyworld every year for 2 weeks and we never get bored. I have been to Disneyworld and Disneyland a total of 12 times just in the past 7 years. I bought this book for my 13 year old who finished it in less then a day. Then I read it and now my 10 year old is reading it. I could picture every detail and place you talk about in the book and just LOVED it!! It confirms what I have known for years - all the magic of Disneyworld/Disneyland is real both the good and the bad. Please write more of these books for both the kids and us adult Disney lovers.

Thanks for the great book! I'm a 30-Something father of two who loves Disney. A few years ago, I re-discovered my love of reading, and I have read more in the last two years than I have in my entire life.
When I finished "The Imagineering Way," I had to feed my appetite for more Disney books. I came across "The Kindom Keepers" while doing a web search. It arrived in the mail earlier this week and I finished it last night. I couldn't put it down.
I guess it may have been the fact that I grew up going to Disney World, but this book really filled me with a youthful spirit and took me back to a fun time when I had little responsibility.
We will be heading back to DW in a few weeks, but I don't think I will be able to ride "It's A Small World." I'm looking forward to the next book and I hope that a movie is in the works. Thanks again!
This is the Best Book of ALL TIME If you read the grimm's version of Sleeping Beauty, there are 7 or eight fairys and the "Maleficient" character is actually a fairy turned evil. When you said that a certain witch, actually a fairy was going to reappear, did you mean her?

I've read The Kingdom Keepers and Peter and The Starcatchers (hoping to buy the sequel sometime soon, but it just seems I never have time to read with school and such). Whenever I read The Kingdom Keepers, i always think it would be such a great movie. I am eagerly awaiting the sequel, so please keep writing! Is Wayne going to be in the next book? I really hope so, but it would be kind of cool to see how the kids would react without Wayne to guide them in the right direction. It would be really, really cool if the Disney villians could come outside the park and directly after the DHIs in school or something. I know there was that whole scene in the skate park in the first book, but I mean that it would actually be interesting if one of the villians (perhaps the head of the Overtakers?) found a way to sneak out of the park and establish a permanent hide-out there. I think that VMK should somehow be pulled into the plot more (perhaps the Overtakers started messing around there?). Oh, and any hints as to what your VMK name is (you're the one who made me curious about VMK, and you made me want to join)? What rooms do you like to hang out in the most? And are you a member of any Disney discussion boards??? Oh, and in the first book you made it sound as though the crossing-over might stop after this book, and I was wondering, is that really going to happen? I think the kids should continue to cross over, but of course you're the author and it's entirely up to you.

The way you described the Utilitor, especially the trash system, was way different from my custodial training at the Magic Kingdom. Did you describe it exactly as you learned it (because it's so complex, you know, we could have heard different things) or did you take some creative liberties? (Also when I was there they played the radio all the time so it was never quiet. I'm just saying.)

I'm halfway through Kingdom Keepers and I LOVE it so far! I'm thrilled that your making a second one and I'm getting it the day it comes out. Is there going to be a Kingdom Keepers movie? If not, you should see about getting one made, I think it would do really well my brother and sister and I would be thrilled if one was made! :D
You should also (if you can) make a book for each kingdom. The first one was for Magic Kingdom, the second sounds like it will be for Animal Kingdom, so you should then make one (if you can) each for MGM Studios and Epcot too.

If Kingdom Keepers becomes a movie, auditions should be held in Orlando, y'know because of the book. But will amanda and finn see each other again? maybe the main overtaker could be someone you dreamed up. and about the fighting along disney heroes, it would be too much like Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2. Question- Why don't you give some of the disney charachters larger rolesinstead of just cameo apperances? Like why dosen't Mowgli help them in the animal kingdom or Buzz Lightyear fight off Zurg.

I will 4 SURE buy kk2. I thnik you should have Sora (from Kingdom Hearts 1&2) fight along with the DHI's. I also think there should be more sword combat. Like when Sora uses the Keyblade. Well those are my ideas. Thank You

I read your book "The Kingdom Keepers", I really enjoyed it. Ever since my friend let me borrow it I couldn't stop reading it. I'm definetly getting this book and the sequel to it. I have a question for you, Will you ever reveal the leader of the overtakers in the sequel to "The Kingdom Keepers"? You don't have to answer my question though. Keep up the good work!
if your gonna put animal kingdom in you need the yeti as an overtaker, or as something big this was a great book and was not cunfusing at all hold off on movie plans for now though unless its gonna be advertised so people see it i am doing a major book report on it i just cant get enough of the story, maybe you should tie it in with kingdom hearts where they battle alongside sora goofy donald riku kiari and maybe even roxas

Hi I finished Kingdom Keepers in about 5 hours and I LOVED IT!!! It was the best book i EVER read and i got all the hidden things because my mom used to work for Disney so i got to go there a lot. Also durring March 2005 i joined VMK as a beta tester so seeing the VMK stuff made me really glad. Thanks SO MUCH for writing this i enjoyed it very much.

It would be really cool if this book was made into a movie. I was so excited when I saw VMK in there! I would do a back flip, but I don't know how...
Anyway, I know you probably don't want to post your vmk name because people would be bugging you all the time but my name is Lilqueeny on vmk.
If there was a movie, I could be a someone in the background like someone at school walking by or someone in Magic Kingdom. I'm a pretty good actress but I rather you use more experienced kids.
During the summer, I have to do two book reports on a book from a list and a book of my choice. The book from the list was The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and I'm doing my second report on this book! Took me two days to finish.. Would of took me One but I had to "sleep" lol!

I just wanted to say I LOVED your book soooo much. I bougt it on my vacation in Disney World and could not put it down. I took it with me everywhere, to the pool ( I stayed at the Boardwalk ) i took it in restauraunts, i even read it in lines for rides. I LOVED IT!!! I read it in like three days. My mom almost had to take it away from me. I really want to just say... KEEP ROCKIN RIDLEY!!!!!!

One quick question, since the book is going to be called... KINGDOM KEEPERS: THE RISE OF CHERNABOG... does that mean that Chernabog is goining to be the Main Overtaker, or just the lasyt on? because the rise, can mean very different things.
It could be the rise of theat person, and in the next book. Or ity could mean the rise...and decine of that person. I have a very contridicting mind. I usually go with my first impression though.
um...AS i was saying, I loved the way you made myths and facts, fit into the story, Like in KK, with the hurricane that rpidly declined over Disney world. And in Peter and the Star Catchers the Centaurs and other animals.
When you do that, my eyes get glued onto the page**. I hope there is more to write. Take care.

Dear Mister Ridley, I think that maybe you should just do the whole thing in Animal Kingdom and it could be more of a themed book.
I also think...sorry when i say this but Chernabog er the evil dude isn't so classic disney. I think that you should put in a classic disney villian in there so everyone would know, even me a disneyfanatic like you wouldn't even know, had to search Chernabog before i realised who he was. Most people probably only know him by face, not so much by picture.
Anyway, I think that you should make the villian/overtaker Jafar which kinda matches animal kingdom, like a desert, wild, forest theme. Please consider!

Apparantly since everyone is mentioning which villians you should put into the next Kingdom Keepers and having some disney heroes help the DHIs I am just going to say that it would be nice if you added more villians, but having the Disney Heroes including Mickey would be a little too similar to a game called "Kingdom Hearts" made by Square-Enix and it is based around almost all the disney movies and in the game charcters such as Hercules, Mickey Mouse, Jack Sparrow, Simba, Jack Skellington, etc. help the main character defeat the villians from their own stories or "Worlds" mentioned in the game. For Example, Herculaes would help the main character beat Hades, Simba would help defeat Scar, etc. and if you add the Disney Heroes helping the DHIs defeat the Disney villains, or as you call them 'The Overtakers', the two ideas would be almost exactly the same and Square-Enix might think you stole the idea from them so yea I just felt like giving you the heads up so you dont get in trouble because you are my favorite author. And maybe you should make some of the games in VMK, such as the Pirates of The Carribean Game, like kind of happen to the DHIs while they are in Walt Disney World After Dark, like some how the overtakes took over the computer and sent the DHIs to the where they must win because their lives are at stake or something. And last since you did mention that Kingdom Keepers 2 will happen in the Animal Kingdom, maybe you should make some shows come to life instead of just having the rides do tyhat like in the ride "It's a Bug's Life" you can have the fake bugs in the real ride that scare the audience come to life when the DHIs go into the shows to look for clues or something and have the bugs attack them like spiders attempt to bite them with their poisoness fangs, wasps trying to sting them, etc. and the bugs wouldnt stop until the DHIs give up and surrender or have an ovetaker kidnap a DHI like in the 1st kingdom keepers with Maybeck and have the hostage in the show or something. And thats basically it so hope you take at least some of my advice and good luck with making more sequals for Kingdom Keepers.
(P.S. I have read Kingdom Keepers in my own free time at school and I loved it and at night I couldnt let go of the book and once stayed up until midnight with the book in my hands. Yes it is that addicting *Laughs*)

I JUST finished "The Kingdom Keepers" and i LOVED it.At first i thought silver wing would be my favorite book but you beat that book by a long shot it has so much discription.It is really funny cause my car broke down and that is how i finished it and my friend just finished a 214 page book and is hoping to find an agent soon to publish it

I just had a great idea!
There is the energy drink that can downpower the DHIs.The energy drink makes them weary and stuck in the Animal Kingdom like what happened to Maybeck.Philby and Maybeck don't think the enrgy drink is a good thing to have because it has wierd markings on the lable,but Finn,Charlene,and Willa drink it anyway.

I just would like to say as a college student studying to be an author i really enjoyed this book. I think it helped that i also was a cast member for six months. Do you have any tips for an aspiring author?
I am reading Kingdom Keepers and it seems like every time I pick it up I can't put it down. I am suggesting it to all my friends, even though I'm far away from Disney World, Kingdom Keepers makes me feel like I am right in the park. It has a clever plot and is one of my favorite books thanks for writing such a good book!

A close friend tells me that there are no such things as good witches, just fairies.
B. Maleficent was a fairy before she turned to the dark side of her powers. Could Amanda become a witch similar to what Jez had been?
Chapter 29:
I realized something very startling about the events of Chapter 29, at the Halloween party:
"Suddenly, Amanda shuddered. Her head jerked up toward the sky. Her shoulders shrugged and stiffened. Her eyes rolled in her head...She felt cold, stiff, as if she was suffering some kind of seizure."
The book doesn't describe exactly what happens to Charlene, but I assume nearly the same happened to her.
But what I noticed only a few days ago was that what Ridley described happening to Amanda is similar to how the process of demonic possession is staged in movies and on TV.
In other words, what happened to Amanda and possibly Charlene is similar to what happens to people when they become possessed by demons.
Could this have something to do with the next book?

Hey, guys. Please don't maul me with bad comments, but, i really don't think Kingdom Keepers should be a movie. Don't get me wrong, it's probably everyone's dream to be in the parks at night, but I think that when some people read the book, (like me), they think of themselves going on these adventures and living the magic themselves. But when we see the movie on the big screen and then we see Freddie Highmore floating in Splash Mountain, running through Big Thunder Mountain or something like that, it might ruin that spark of magic there. (Plus, wouldn't little kids who love Walt Disney World be afraid of the Small World scene and not want to go on the ride anymore?) It's just my opinion, but if you agree with me, please say something. Ridley and Disney, please take this into consideration.

I would see the movie being put as PG or PG-13, even, for some of the content.
Well I could see KK being given a PG or PG-13 rating for the similar reason 'Facing the Giants' received a PG rating when there was no content requiring a parental guide.

Gosh! I wish I knew this site exsisted earlier! (I'm new to the whole commenting thing.) I love "The Kingdom Keepers" and I've read it soooooooo many times and waiting for the next book! Why did you pick the Magic Kingdom and MGM Studios (now called Disney's Hollywood Studios) for the first book? Why not have the DHI's visit all of the parks?
Since the next book title might be Kingdom Keepers: Rise of the Chernabog, and since the Chernabogs first appearance was in Nightmare on Bald Mountian, I think that the Chernabog will come out of Expidetion Everest

I found a flaw in your Splash Mountain ride research. Ya know how the to float along and fall off the edge? They have to up the pully thingy. They never did.
