Please Let It Be Whale Vomit, Not Just Sea Junk

Dorothy Ferreira with a gift from her 82-year-old sister in Iowa. In a post-whaling age, she has yet to find someone who knows whether it is truly ambergris.

MONTAUK, N.Y. — In this season of strange presents from relatives, Dorothy Ferreira got a doozy the other day from her 82-year-old sister in Waterloo, Iowa. It was ugly. It weighed four pounds. There was no receipt in the box.
Inside she found what looked like a gnarled, funky candle but could actually be a huge hunk of petrified whale vomit worth as much as $18,000.

Okay. This is Hale. Sorry, I had to make an account. I was literally posting on this, and then it says "This blog does not allow anonymous comments." So I had to make an account. And a blog. Maybe I will use that someday..
Here it is!

This feels really weird. I think Ridley is editing the site while I am on it.
You know, I usually like it when I see my hometown (Waterloo) make the news. But somehow being mentioned in connection with whale vomit (even worth big $$) doesn't really say a lot for a town. Trust me, folks, there's more to Waterloo than whale barf! ;-)
Ambergris is in Moby Dick as contents of a whale's small intestine and, yes, it was very valuable, even in its time, apparently.
Now spermacetti that's a different "kettle of fish :>^. In Moby Dick they are described bailing it out of the whale's head by the bucket full. When burnt in a lamp it gave off the smell of roses.
