catherine: VMK was being developed as I wrote KK. I traveled to headquarters and they showed me what they could of it, but it's very different now. The good news is: they've agreed to work closely with me on KK2 -- and we may have some cross-over, where actual rooms mentioned in the novel end up on the site.

Puzzler: Peter and the Secret of Rundoon, will close the Starcatchers trilogy. Dave and I are sad to see it end, but the good news is we've begun working on a "stand alone" novel, that should be out about a year after Peter #3. And it's FUNNY and fun!

I'm a 5th grade teacher in Florida, and I love your adult novels. I just read Kingdom Keepers this weekend and can't wait to start reading it aloud to my class tomorrow. Knowing my kids, I'm sure they will be asking me lots of questions about the book. I've only been to Disney a couple of times, so I'm not very knowledgeable. For example, does all of the trash really go down chutes in the park?
----
YES, Tina, the trash is sucked out of the magic kingdom. I saw this on my private tour. I'm thrilled you'll read this to your students. Makes my day!

I have SOOOOOO many authors I like, that's a really difficult question. As a young reader, I liked Rudyard Kipling A LOT.
Hope that helps.

I was just wondering if your new book A Never Land Book has anything to do with Molly and Peter or is it just about the mearmaids and James? I guess thats a stupid question. Any way is Peter and the Secrete of Rundoon out and for sell yet cause I would so bye it.
Chelsey
chelsey :
The NeverLand books involve everyone on the island BUT Peter and Molly. Dave and I have begun work on a 3rd book. The 2nd, Cave Of The Dark Wind, will be published in June. It's our favorite so far.
Thanks for asking.

My question is, is Kingdom Keepers and Kingdom Keepers: Disney After Dark the same book? Cause i checked online to see if KK#2 came out and some say there the same book some say there different?
by the way i loved the book it was good use of imagination.
What is "Stand Alone" going to be about? Is it like Peter Pan or totally different? I LOVE Peter and the Starcatchers and Peter and the Shadow Thieves, and I don't want there to be only one more book! But I was really exited when I found out today that there was going to be Peter and the Secret of Rundoon, I can't wait to read it! I think it should mention how Peter got the last name Pan. When is it coming out?
Rebecca
Crystal:
Disney took the subtitle "Disney After Dark" off of Kingdom Keepers when they published it in hardcover. It's THE SAME BOOK in paperback, but with the subtitle (so don't buy it a second time!"
Kingdom Keepers, Book Two: The Rise of Chernabog will publish in September of 2008, a little over a year from now.
Ridley
Rebecca:
There are two stand alones underway.
The first is Steel Trapp, about a boy who gets hold of a briefcase that doesn't belong to him and uncovers a dangerous plot. I wrote that one by myself. SCIENCE FAIR, co-written with Dave Barry is also a stand alone (in other words, not part of a series) set in a middle school outside of Washington, DC. We're not sure when it will be published, but probably pretty soon after Kingdom Keepers 2.
Ridley
Hiya! I think it's so cool how your book Kingdom Keepers has to do with Disney! Both of my parents worked there so I'm a HUGE Disney fan and when I picked up your book and read what it was about I literally jumped for joy! Thanks for the great reads!
Anne-Joell
Hey Ridley! I've been off the boards for a while, so I'm wondering if KK2 is still going to be about Disney on Broadway? I know that the subtitle is Rise of Chernabog, and I know Chernabog's not on Broadway, so hopefully it'll be set in the parks?
KK2 is about Animal Kingdom. I've entered into a separate deal to write a YA "thriller" set on Broadway--a series, actually: Backstage Pass.

Ridley:
Are you planning on doing more in the series after KK#2? My 13 yr old daughter and I both LOVED your first KK book and cannot wait for the second. We travel to WDW every year for 2 weeks to celebrate her birthday and are VERY attached to WDW and everything that has to do with it.
What is the chance of Kingdom Keepers becoming a movie? (You Should Go Get A Churro..)

My 8 year old son just finished Kingdom Keepers Disney After Dark. What a hit...or as he said it was wicked awesome. My husband insists he saw a copy of a young reader book written by you that involved kids stuck in The Museum of Natural History. I have been unable to locate anything in my searches...can you tell me if this book exists and if so what the title is. My son is chomping at the bit for another great book.
smilk16, you should look at the Peter and the Starcatchers/Shadow Theives. If he liked Kingdom Keepers he should like those.
Ridley, a question. Did you purposely put at least one mysterious character in both YA books? I mean, the way Amanda and Molly seem like they are keeping secrets from Finn/Peter are so similar. It drives me absolutely crazy when I read it. Even for a second time.
Hey Ridley, I have some questions:
1) Have you or Dave heard anything about the Guiness World Record attempt made by Florida schools? I remember participating, and I haven't heard anything back yet.
2)About that Broadway series, is it going to be about Disney on Broadway, or Broadway in general?
3) In The Kingdom Keepers, is Escher's keep real? If not was it based on Escher's Relativity?
Is The Second Book Out?
I am a big fan of the Peter and the..... books! i'm practically obsessed. They had a contest here in florida where you had to make a movie based on the chapter from the book and I won! Your great and I cant wait to read KK since i have 2 family members working at Disney!
When will peter and the secret Rundoon come out?
Just wanted to let you know about what happened here at (Ridley's old middle school that I happen to attend) today. We had a book talk, and at the end, the media specialist mentioned the Peter books. Eventually she got to TKK, and my friend (friend's name who is also big fan) and I got excited about it. Now everyone in our LA class is excited to read it for summer reading. I'm serious. After my LA teacher found out you went to (that school I mentioned), she asked about you coming to the school. The media specialist said that you said, "Yes. Maybe. Next time we're on tour."
I just had to say that. Proceed.
is there plans for follow novels using finn and the rest of the kids?? with reference to there being a higher power??
Catherine:
Dave and I were a big part of setting the world record. And thanks to the efforts of hard workers in Florida, we did it!
Escher's Keep is in my imagination, unless Disney wants to build the attraction!
Ridley
Hale:
Love that middle school.
Dave and I have begun writing a book "Science Fair" that takes place in a middle school near Washington DC. IT'S VERY FUNNY!
Ridley
Hale:
Amanda IS keeping secrets. Some of them will be revealed in KK2.
Ridley
Smilk:
I think your husband was dreaming about Night At The Museum! :-)
My next is inside Animal Kingdom.
Ridley
zoemaesmom:
I'm hoping to write five or more Kingdom Keepers. Only time will tell.
Thanks for the enthusiasm!
Ridley
Have any comprehesion questions/reading response questions been developed for teachers who want to use The Kingdom Keepers ?? I read the book and loved it and am starting to write questions but wonder if it has already been done?
I'm asking Disney about the reading/comprehension question. Thanks for asking.
Ridley
teacher:
I'm told if you check the Hyperion Books for Children, or Disney Edition web sites in about 2-3 weeks there should be the material you're looking for.

Ridley,
I was wondering if all the the future Kingdom Keepers Books, if you have made plans for the yet, will be set in WDW? I think that WDW is better than Disney Land because there are far more parks and its more interesting. I really hope it all stays in Florida, but I'm sure it will be right? Because that's where the kids live... haha. I guess I almost answered my own question... maybe. -Tyler
Dear Ridley,
A few months ago i think i saw that you got film rights from Disney for Peter and the Starcatchers, but i am not sure... can you please tell me if i saw that??
Thx

Hey Ridley,
Are you considering writing other Kingdom Keepers books that take place at Disneyland? I just thought that that would be cool, because:
#1- It's on the whole other side of the United States.
#2- There is the California Adventure theme park.
#3- There are differences in between Walt Disney World and Disneyland.
Also, if so, would it be new characters as the Hosts? Just Curious!
Thanks for the great books and keep writing.
Hi ridley
I'm new to this site and i loved the kingdom keepers and peter and the starcatchers and was wondering if they would be coming out with a movie for either of them?
Thanks
ElDiablo
i loved peter and the starcatchers, and i was sad when i found out that there was going to be one more book. are you going to write any more books like it?
Ridley,
I have a few questions-
--Are you doing any book signings soon? If so, where or is there a place on the website where you post that kind of stuff?
--I saw you are set to write a series called "Backstage Pass". Will it have any connection to Disney Theatrical or just Broadway in general?
--Do you have any new ideas for new series coming out? I'd love to hear your ideas.
Thanks for everything. And I saw you and your band with Dave Barry on YouTube. That looks awesome. A bunch of amazing authors jamming away! Cool!
Jon
p.s. You are an amazing storyteller. The scenarios jump right off the page. Like I can see the story being acted out in my mind. It's great! Perfect for film, if you ask me.
mr.pearson. i am a 14 Y/O boy and i love your work. Is it true you there will only be 3 books in the Star Catcher's trilogy? oh and you are my third favorite author. hehe sorry.Paulo Coelho had me with The Alchemist and Louis Lowry got me with the Giver trilogy. have you read those books? if not i HIGHLY suggest the Alchemist. it changed me spiritually lol( I hope you dont mind me saying "lol "). well please message back. thank you sir
I LOVE YOUR BOOK! HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO WRITE IT?
you should use the Disney Cruise for one of the places of setting for the kingdom keepers series.
p.s. is there going to be a kingdom keeper movie?
ridley do you think that if they actually made that technology that the book kingdom keepers could be real because if it is then i am definitely packing up and moving to flordia to audition and i will really hope i get chosen because i mean how cool would it be to go to the park at night and do all of the cool things in the book
I'm a 4th grade teacher in the Midwest and we are 1/2 way through your story. My kids are spellbound! This year I'm reading it aloud to my class, but next year I'd like to use it as a novel unit. As "teacher155" mentioned... I hope "comprehension reading questions" include a teacher's guide and classroom materials to go along with not only this story but also the whole series to come?
Well done Ridley - I love reading book #1 to my kids and watching them race to check out and read book #2!!!
im a 7th grader that took part in the world record you guys did. I was wondering if you guys might wright books after the the original Peter Pan book. Almost like a story after the story.
I especially love the Peter and the Secret of Rundoon!!
I'm a seventh grader that took part in your world record. I was wondering if you could make a starcatchers book about the days after the original Peter Pan novel. I also heard you are making a sub series that has james and mermaids from the trilogy.... is that true.
i love Peter and the secret of Rundoon!!!
Hey, Ridley! In case you aren't really sure which Disney villains to use as Overtakers, here are some suggestions:
The Wicked Queen
Jafar
Ursula
Scar
Captain Hook
I teach 5th grade. I have used Kingdom Keepers as a read aloud for the past 2 years and it is by far the favorite. We turn off the lights and sit with just a lamp on to create a spooky mood. When I end a chapter the kids literally beg for more! Thanks for writing a book that makes kids LOVE to read!
I understand you submitted the Kingdom Keepers story to Walt Disney Pictures, but what is the update on the movie?

I am 14 and Kingdom Keepers is the best book I've ever read! I was wondering what you're plans to continue the series are because I was dissapointed when then book ended and I am waiting anxiously to read more of it! Thanks!
Hi Ridely!
My names Esther!
I seee you've written books with another person before.
Just wondering, is that like a good thing, or lets say, a convenient thing to do? Because me and my friend are writing a book ourselves...and we would REALLY like to publish it one day. That is...after, we've finished school. It's a YA book...and its about a prep school for university during the summer...any suggestions or advice you'd like to make for us? I would REALLY appreiciate it. :P
By the way, I LOVE the kingdom keepers. its on my favourites list. I've been to Disnay world, so while I was reading it, it was like seeing it in a whole new, different 'perspective'..haha.
you must've really, LITERALLY "STUDIED" disney world...haha.
- one of your fans,
Esther -
