KINGDOM KEEPERS 2 - For the curious

Here's the catalog copy for Kingdom Keepers 2 (note, the title is still being considered):

Kingdom Keepers: The Second Server
Disney At Dawn

It's supposed to be a happy day at the Magic Kingdom – the return of the teenage, holographic hosts. But things go very wrong when a sudden lightning storm disrupts the celebration, and Amanda's mysterious sister, Jez, disappears. The only clue is the sighting of a wild monkey in the Magic Kingdom during the storm.

The mystery deepens as Finn is contacted by Wayne, an old man he hasn't heard from in months. Wayne tells Finn that there's trouble at the Animal Kingdom: the evil Overtakers have gained control of one of the computer servers that will be used to operate Daylight Holographic Imaging there. That means that if any of the holographic hosts fall asleep, they will go into comas – permanently.

With time running out, Finn, Philby, and Maybeck, along with Willa and Charlene, and Amanda, begin a desperate search, following a string of cryptic clues found inside the diary of the missing Jez. They must find and destroy the second server before they fall asleep; their survival -- and the future of the parks – depend on their success.

Filled with action and brimming with the same meticulous detail as Kingdom Keepers: Disney After Dark, this second book in the series — Disney At Dawn --is the result of hands-on research behind the scenes at the Animal Kingdom. Young and older readers alike will get a glimpse into a second Disney kingdom. The wild rides have only just begun; and the clock is ticking. How long can the teens keep themselves awake in their quest to find their friend — and what happens if they fail?

So, Jess returns to the dark side in this one? Now I feel even more impatient. This one sounds better than the first!

Maybe it's weird, but I think it's really cool.

Thanks Ridley. For your books and everything else you do.

I admire an author that will speak to his fans. I enjoy the interaction. It helps to get to know the author well and it brings a new meaning to the books. It's a lot more personal. Keep up the good work.

I'll be going to your Killer Weekend signing at the Poisoned Pen in Arizona. I love your books. I finished reading CotDW and it was great, and I'll be getting the Secret of Rundoon sometime this week (ARC), and look forward to meeting you at the signing. I can't wait until Killer Weekend comes out and for KK2.

Thanks Ridley. It looks great. I can just imagine in the book:

"Finn creeped down the hallway. As he passed by his parent's room, he heard the loud snores of his father's sleep. The digital clock on the bedside table glowed "12:33" in neon green. He kept walking, avoiding the several steps he knew would creak, causing his parents to wake. He found his way into the dark kitchen..."

I could go on. It sounds nice how the plotline is almost the opposite of the first, and the "Disney at Dawn" name is perfect for it.

I just finished Kingdom Keepers this morning, and was very glad to see that there was a sequel in the works. I thought there might be more to the story. Very well written, and easy to see in my minds eye, as we just spent the first week of June @ WDW. Can't wait for the next one. I'm still wondering about Amanda's full connection to the Park.

Ridley, Finn told his mom about the whole DHI thing in the first book, right? So why does he need to sneak out? At least, sneak out by both his parents. I just thought of that. Or did she not believe him? That wouldn't make sense.

I just finished reading Secret of Rundoon, and I found it to be a stunning ending for the series. The ending was magnificent, yet...sad. I wont explain why, as to not give the ending away. What plans do you and Dave have for the Peter books? I know this is the last one, but do you plan to have any other works, or sub-series, such as you do with the Neverland books? The copy I read was an ARC, but I'm still just as anxious as before reading the book for the hardcover to come out, so I can see the the illustrations for this one, and reread it to see if anything has changed much.

Back on the original topic (KK2), how many Kingdom Keepers books do you plan to have?

I have so many other questions to ask you along with these ones, but I'm saving them for July 23, when you come to the Poisoned Pen in Scottsdale.

Yay! An update on the squeal! I have been looking for something like this!

Well, I just discovered this site a couple of days ago and I made a mental note to make a comment on here...and so here I am! It’s pretty funny that I started liking your series...it was really thanks to my little sister. She really enjoyed the first book and finished the book in about two days (which is record time for her, believe me). And one day, while I was doing my homework, she bursts into my room and shouts at me to read it. Being a the nice older sister than I am, I did read the book (ironic, my family took a vacation to Disney the day after I started on it). And then I liked the story, so I told my older brother to read it and then he recommended it to my parents who in turn gave it to my grandparents (on both sides of the family). So it kinda started at the top of the ladder and worked it’s way down....><

Thanks for the great story that brought my sister and me a bit closer...

Sishi

Blogger Ridley said...

Sishi: nice story! Thanks for that. Funny that it should work from bottom to top!

Yes, to others, Peter and the Secret Of Rundoon publishes in October. Dave and I will tour for it.

Captain: the illutrations are fantastic, and you're right to go buy the real book when it comes out. ARCs are really for bookstores, but people do sometimes sell them on eBay, illegally. It's one of those things authors have to tolerate, but don't love.

Thanks,
Ridley

I found myself actually pleased to be stopped at a red light to be able to hear more of the story. I even looked forward to the drive to & from work! GREAT JOB on this book! The reader, Gary Littman, is sensational!! I am excited for Kingdom Keepers 2 to be released & I hope it is on CD with Gary Littman reading it.

Hi Mr. Ridley,
You have probably heard this before (or read it 5072 or so times), but you are an amazing author. The way I discovered Kingdom Keepers is one of those magical moments of Disney.

I had just enough money to get a souvenir on the last day of my trip to disney with my family and I wanted to get the perfect thing. I ran around for ten minutes realizing that i probably didn't have "just enough money," but still wanting something. Since we had to board the plane on time, to leave Florida and Disney behind, I had to pick a souvenir at that very moment and somehow I managed to find the book stand and me, being the bookworm that I was, found The Kingdom Keepers. I had to borrow some money to cover it, but I soon found out that it was worth it as I couldn't pull my eyes off of it even on the plane ride home. Now that is a memory.

Thank you so much.

Hi Ridley! Thank you for changing the title from the "rise of Chernabog". That was a good move, because no one knows who that is, and no offense, but it sounds kinda lame. Anyway, I can't wait to dive into the next book, although it seems difficult to continue the plot in the animal kingdom, because there are hardly any disney characters besides on the jungle cruise thing. I guess i'll just have to wait and see!

Hey Ridley,
I think rise of the Chernabog is a good title but it's good you changed it because if your planning on writing more he should be in the last one because he copuld like bring back Malificent and the other overtakers and Fynn And The others would have to fight all thge overtakers including Chernabog. That's what i think you should do! Think about it!!!

I totally agree! you should make this into a movie, but instead of using well known actors and actresses you should look into fresh faces. I act in school plays and i meet new people all the time who have amazing talent!! When this does become a movie please consider my advice there is hidden talent EVERYWHERE. Maybe not just people from Florida could be in the movie, how about some from oh i don't know say: Massachusetts?? - hint hint, wink wink :) lol - but no seriously a movie would be wonderful and i think all audiences would really enjoy it. Do you have a favorite character from the KK books? My personal favorite is Willa she would be so much fun to play in a movie! And maybe a little romance between her and Finn?? That would be rather adorable although Amanda is another choice...hmm lol. Take my thoughts as you will and have a magical day! lol :)

Ridley,
Have you done any research on the planned, but never built Beastly Kingdom? It was all part of the origional plans for the Animal Kingdom, but it was cancelled out by Michael Eisner at the last minutes because of budet cuts, and because Eisner is a cheap idiot who doesn't want anybody to have any fun. I think that it would be cool to have the Beastly Kingdom to be the book's main overtker's lair, and have it be sheilded from everybody elses knowledge. Let me know if this is a good idea.

Hello,

Disney recently announced the terrible news that the Virtual Magic Kingdom (VMK) will be closing it's gates on May 21st. Will VMK still be inside the new Kingdom Keepers?

Thanks!

I love Disney so much and when i first read Kingdom Keepers I really saw a picture in my mind of what Disney World looks like behind the scenes. It's so cool. Now that the second one is base on Animal Kingdom, do you talk about the myths of the tree of life and how it got there? Also, how do you use the attractions in the book? Finally, who is the leader of the Overtakers, is it Chernabog?
