It's official!!
The Kingdom Keepers: Disney After Dark (Book 1) has won the Florida SSYRA award for grades 6-8.
What an honor to win the Sunshine State Young Readers' Award -- I'm THRILLED. The award is voted on by students all over the state of Florida, so if you're one of those students THANK YOU so much! I'll be traveling to Orlando to accept the award at the end of September, and may do a book signing in one of the parks as well.
Again, thanks to all the Florida readers who voted for the book. YES!!!

Thats so cool Ridley! I didn't know I could vote for it, it may have just been a public school thing, so thats how I didn't know, but thats still awesome! Maybe it will encourage Disney to approve the film more too!

Congratulations! Disney After Dark is a fantastic book, and the award is well deserved!
That's awesome! I'm no longer young enough to vote (I got a bit upset when I saw the reading list for the 08-09 year on the last day of school last year), I knew the kids would enjoy the book. Shame it took so long for them to recognize it.
i saw it on the reading list, and it was a favorite of my team (sunshine state readers team) and even our coach liked it! I think we voted for it, I can't really remember. Good job anyway, and I hope willatree is right.KK should really be a movie, although I'm afraid the actors in Hollywood wouldn't do it justice.

Hi Ridley im kieran I am one of the people that listen to your talk at sas you were great. I liked how you put up optical olutions to show us how a writer sees things that was genius. I also liked how you let us write discriptions about famouse people some of those were really funny!! Your book (Peter and the Starcatchers) was a very discriptive book and I loved the discription in it.

My name is Jordan and I am from the class you read to on April 24th. I really liked the illusions you showed to us. I loved reading Peter and the Starcatchers. That was a great book. My favorite character was Tubby Ted because he was constantly begging food. He is also very wimpy. My second favorite character is Black Stash because I think he is a very cool pirate. I like how whenever he gets mad he kills someone not that I would like to be one f the people being killed. I think the way you set up the book was very good how you wrote from almost every main character's prospective. Thank you very much for coming to our school and talking to us. Hi remember when you were at SAS as a visiting author and at the end you had to read to us? Well I'm part of that class and the things you talked about were cool. You kind of taught me that when your writing, you have to make your reader see in their minds what your writing about and now on I need to do that!!!! Well thanks to you for reading the final pages of Peter and The Starcatchers! Also the illusions that you showed truly fooled me because I just didn't look hard enough! :) Now I know that writing a beggining, middle and end is pretty hard to write and I thought that it was totally easy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just wanted to let you know I took part in the SSYRA voting! I voted for The Kingdom Keepers. It was the best book I'd read that summer. Nothing could compare! It's no surprise; I'm sure you won by a landslide. So congratulations! :D
I see a lot of people posting about a KK movie, perhaps? I'm definately interested in auditioning for Willa...I'm 13, and I think I relate to her a lot.. I hope there's open auditions, if a KK movie is even scheduled. But since the topic keeps rising, just figured I should say something.. Hehe. Thanks, anyways.
Naty, there is no KK movie yet. My advice is, if anyone who posts on here has a YouTube account, make and upload a video encouraging Disney to make the movie! I intend to do so as soon as I get my webcam fixed.
Okay, thanks Kelseigh Rox925. That's actually a good idea. Even though I can't access Youtube, it might work. Or just start online petitions. Just throwing ideas out there.

Yeah! KK3 takes place in EPCOT. I agree, I absolutely love Test Track and Mission Space. Also, Soarin'. That ride is spectacular.

Congrats again Ridley! The book really does deserve it! Everyday at lunch we talk about it! We have a new topic about the book every day! All three of my friends (including myself) have all done a 'book talk' on it(where you talk about your book in front of the class and read some of it..) lots of people in our middle school is reading it which i think is cool, the news is spreading about it! Awesome job Ridley!!

I just realized something.. I can't believe nobody saw it.. Finn Whitman just might be a FAIRLIE! I mean, how else would he be able to will himself to cross over?
This is an awesome book, I'm so glad that it won this award. But it really doesn't matter if this book ever won an award, in thousands of people's eyes it's still the nest book to them, reguardless of award status.

I was so excited to see Kingdom Keepers take #1. I'm a middle school teacher at a Title I school in Orlando. My students this year are very reluctant readers. I did a book talk featuring Kingdom Keepers and have not been able to keep it on my shelf since. (Come to think of it, the media center hasn't been able to either!). Thank you so much for creating this series. It is captivating and the kids think it's so cool to read about a place where they live!
OMGMGGGG CONNGGRAATTSSS !! Can you post when you go for book signing far in advance?? I want to make a special trip to Disney just for you. I am the biggest fan of Kingdom keepers and have gotten 10 of my friends to read it and all LOVED it even the ones who have never been :)

KKI & II are the best books I have ever read. I think that both of the books would make two great movies. Imagine, shooting a movie at Walt Disney World. I'd audition if you did. Thanks for your creative writing!!!
