For the first book, I would start with It's a Small World, then Splash Mountain, then The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, then Big Thunder Mountain, then Cinderella Castle.
For the second book, I would start with the Tree of Life, then Kilomajaro Safari, then the Conservation Station, then Dinosaur, then Expedition Everest.
For the third book (with no knowledge of what happens), I would start with Spaceship Earth, then Test Track, then the Imagination Pavillion, then any of the World Showcase pavillions, then the Fountain of Nations.
Mixture... Uh... Cinderella Castle, then Spaceship Earth, then the Sorcerer Hat (or Great Movie Ride), then the Tree of Life, and maybe end with Cinderella Castle during Wishes.
I'm hoping this isn't a rhetorical question :] If I were shooting I personally would love to focus on the the "hidden" aspects of some of the parks, or at least those which aren't usually filmed, while also including the parks major icons.
For Magic Kingdom: A classic street view that runs down main street towards the hub before rising to reveal Cinderella Castle at sunrise/set. On the street are only a few Cast Members walking around, working and preparing the park for opening(?) I think this would be great because its a somewhat idealized view of what happens "behind the scenes" at the parks, which, in essence, is what the KK series is about, so I feel it would be a great introduction.
If the video has narration, I would move on and begin to focus on the DHI system in general, and set up the backstory to the series. During this you could show the seldom (if ever) used backstage areas of Disney's Hollywood Studios, before moving on to show more about the parks.
Again, focusing on the icons of the parks and seldom seen areas such as random corners of the parks would be the way I would go. (And as a side note, while showing the four park icons, I'd suggest The Chinese Theatre as opposed to the Sorcerer's Hat for DHS, rumors are it may not be a park staple for much longer :D) If and when the narration speaks about various attractions and shows, matching footage could be added.
Well I think that's it. Thanks for posting this question, I enjoyed giving these ideas! -Irishfinneganfan/beyondhorizons
I would focus on spots that look almost errie, and I could name a few. 1- The Tomorrowland to Toontown walkway, the little patio thingy near the river in AK, and the little patio that's up in either Frace or Canada in Epcot. Like I said, just to name a few. Hey- you know who'd know about this? Lou Mongello, at wdwradio!
It would be cool if you started in the clouds(at night) and swooshed down to hub go down main street see a couple of cast members race past them and see a faint glow in the distance(all different colors)and zoom in to see the DHI's running from the pirates through the gates of cinderella's castle
Animal Kingdom: I would try to shoot when the cast members have just arrived and they are preparing the day. Doing last minute cleaning, straightening out things, and just beginning an average day at Disney.
After this, I would ride some of the rides with the camera trying to get hands-on footage of everything.
But most importantly, I would shoot night time footage (or at least when most of the crowds go home and everyone is winding down). I would try to see if any of the cast members could show me what they do when everyone goes home. Then maybe I would visit the animals in Conservation Station and walk through the DINOSAUR ride.
Magic Kingdom: I would try to go on the Big Thunder Mountain and get a backstage tour with how everything works (and maybe get to walk on it like Finn and Philby) Maybe even interview some guests, cast members, and people who have worked at Disney for a long time and know the heart and soul of it.
For the first book I would show Cinderella Castle, then Small World, Splash Mountain, Winnie the Pooh, Thunder Mountain, then end with One Man's Dream.
For the second book I would show Cinderella Castle, then the bat enclosure, Kilmanjaro Safaris, AK Lodge, the tiger yards, then end with Everest.
P.S- Any hints as to what this is leading up to? Hope to find out soon!
For the first book, I would feature each of the attractions and rides where the 3D letters were found. Maybe it would be dark and eerie, like at night, and the letters could be seen glowing? I would also put footage of kids running from attraction to attraction.
P.S. I don't know if you remember me, but I was the aspiring author from the D23 expo. Thanks for the advice and the autographs!
I LOVE THE KK BOOKS THERE IS A LOT OF PARTS THAT WOULD BE GOOD SCENES.I WOULD SHOOT IT'S A SMALL WORLD WITH THE DALLS COMEING TO LIFE.I ALSO LOVE THE PART WHEN FINN SAVES AMANDA AND HURTS MALEFICENT.
Whoops! Sorry, misread the questions... But, uh... probably the Haunted Mansion and Space Mountain because those were important places. Also the castle (like A LOT)because SO much takes place there.
Here are some places that I think are important if you were to shoot scenes:
The Hub, WDW Monorail system, Cinderella Castle, Fantasy Land, The "Indian (Native American) huts that the KK's hid in, the boat tours and other tours, aerial view of WDW, Tree of Life, Dinosaur, The Consesrvation Station, The rendezvous point where the KK's met in the 1st and 2nd book. the tiger area in AK ...
There's probably a lot more, but here are just some
I would get 3D glasses and try to get the code letters. I'd also make sure to go on all the rides they went on so far. I'm sure this would take more than 2 minutes so I'd have to shorten it.
like magic kingdom girl, i have to finish later. this would be kinda hard but at the beginning, it ccould show the park empty, then have a hologram boy appear. you'd go to his point of view then pan the park, seeing a bunch of disney characters. i have to go now, i'll finish after school
I'd probably start with a shot of the entrance to MK, add a shot of Main Street USA like so many other people, then sweep towards the firehouse. I'd then focus on Cinderella Castle, shoot the Haunted Mansion, Small World, Pirates, then a shot of the Cinderella Castle at night.
Book 2:
I'd get a shot of the Tree of Life just as the sun's rising, then I'd pan over to the direction of the bat enclosure, then get a few animal shots while on Kilimanjaro Safari, get shots in the Dinasour ride, the Lion King show, and finish with a shot of Expedition Everest at night.
I would start at the entrance gates of Magic Kingdom as the last few groups of people leave the park as it closes. The camera then pans down to the utilidors as the last of the cast members leave for the day- all but one, that is (Wayne). Zoom in on his face, and he makes a head motion that indicates "look up on the park level." The camera then pans up to black where a closeup of a kid's eyes opening is shown. It's Finn, and as he opens his eyes the camera zooms out to show his entire body. Around him the rest of the DSIs appears, looking around them curiously. "Where are we?" one asks. A voice says, "You're in the Magic Kingdom." The camera turns from the kids to the person responsible for the voice- it's Wayne, leaning on a lightpost. Suddenly, pirates, ghosts, and other notoriously villainous animatronics appear behind the kids. Wayne says, "I'll explain later... run!" Fade to black... Kingdom Keepers logo appears on the screen. Hope you enjoy!
I would probably go throughout the park and visit the places where most of the exciting scenes came from. Like the castle then head on over to Splash Mountain. Then, I would do some of Small World, Pirates, and Haunted Mansion. Lastly, take a shot of the firehouse with its lights on so it looks so bright on the dark street.
For book 2:
I would start with the Tree of Life. Then make my way around it. I would then get the Safari, then the Dinosaur ride. After that, I would do a big profile picture of Expedition Everast. I would then make my way around back to the tree and take one last shot of it while it fades.
Hope this helps!! Also, thank you Ridley for giving us these great ideas for writing!!
I would probably do all the attractions that played a big part in the books. I would start at the Castle and make my way around it. Go to It's a Small World then stop at Pirates of the Caribean. After that, go to Splash Moutain. Finally, stop at the firehouse and take a shot of it lit up on the dark street.
For book 2:
Get a little shot of the Castle then kinda fade it together with the Tree of Life. I would then make my way around the Tree of Life and my first stop would be Safari. After Safari, I would stop at one of the animal exhibits in the dark so you could kind of get the feel of it. After that, I would make my way up to Everest and get a profile of that. Lastly I would go back to the Tree and end it there.
Thank you Ridley, for making such wonderful books for us to build ideas on!!
oops, i misread the question. i was thinking of an ad for a movie. for the internet, i'd show the mk from an aerial view, then start at the entrance and zoom towards the castle. then i would have a montage of the different rides, and feature a view from the top of splash mountain. at the very end, i'd have malificent laughing evilly
Well if this was part of the movie i would do the ending of the wishes fireworks when Maleficent comes out and the kids (DHIS) would come out and stop her for good and all eternity.
I have another idea: you could show videos of important rides and locations; like Cinderella Castle, Main Street, Small World, etc.; during the day when it's busy then show it at night when it's dark and empty, to show the contrast. You could do this with a bunch of the best spots!
ITS A SMALL WORLD!!! WHEN THE DOLLS WERE CHEWING THEM UP N TEHY HAD TO SMILE!!! +D BTW if u realli read these comments i want u to no im a HUGE fan n if ur able to make a movie could u plz post the audition dates on ur website? thx =D I might b black but i still wanna play some of the girls XD shake things up a bit!!!
From the first book I would recreate the chase scene where security is chasing Amanda and Finn at the Magic Kingdom and continue it in to The Haunted Mansion. From the second book the brooms chasing Finn at the Hollywood Studios
Maybe some quick shots of Big Thunder Mountain, It's a Small World, the Winnie the Pooh ride, and Splash Mountain in Magic Kingdom when explaining the first book, with majority of that segment on Main Street.
Then for the second book, Majority would be in front of the tree of life, while there are shots of the tigers, Expedition Everest, and Dinosaur.
For me it would all depend on what the video was like; a commercial or a summary of what the book is about. If it was a commercial:
I would start in the clouds then go down to the Walt and Mickey statue near Cinderella Castle. The camera would then go to the main gates and show a guard lock the gates and leave. While the camera is going down out of the clouds a narrator says, "Have you ever wonderd what it is like when the rides shut down, the last person leaves, and the gates are locked? It is never as it seems." Then you hear a noise and the camera pans to the bushes. The leaves rustle and the camera zooms in. Finn jumps out and yells, "Run!" The four others follow Finn out of the bushes and run after him. Then the pirates jump from the same bushes chasing them down Main Street to Cinderella's Castle. The camera zooms out while still focusing on the action below coming to the Castle window showing the apartment window light on. It then pans into the apartment window and shows Wayne sitting at the table. The narrators says, "The Overtakers are bent on controling the park. Will Walt Disney World fall in ruins to their rule? Will the five DHIs ever wake up from this horror? Only he [Wayne] has the answer." Then show clips from the movie.
From a director's point of view? I would have it so that all you hear is Wayne's voice, saying something along the lines of, "The rides are still open." And then have like real quick glimpses of the fight scenes like "It's A Small World" and the railway, (I forgot the name....) Then when Wayne is done talking, a blast of cool kick-overtaker-butt will blast and show the castle all dramatic. DUNDUNDUNNNNNNNN
i would shoot the scene where they had to go through Escher's Keep while being chased by the pirates and all the crazy stuff inside like the upside down stairs and the glass elavator. As you see the stars moving faster and faster above you till you reach the apartment over looking the whole magic kingdom in the hours where the sun is setting and the sky is every shade of red.....

hey there is a petition online for a kingdom keepers film at this link http://www.petitiononline.com/disneysb/petition.html
Okay... so we have:
Small World...
Pirates...
Epcot..
Main Street
WE CAN DO THIS!!!
Thunder Mt. and Splash Mt. !!!!!!!
Wayne's fire station house! I love your books! I made a KK website www,disneyatdark.com

Start in the setting of the opening scene of KINGDOM KEEPERS 1.
Just panning down a dark, foggy Main Street U.S.A with a deep voice describing the premise of the series:
"Have you ever wondered what happens when the lights go out?...etc."
It would be very captivating and chilling. Much like if a trailer for this movie were to be made.
From a director's point of view? I would have it so that all you hear is Wayne's voice, saying something along the lines of, "The rides are still open."
