OCTOBER 2001 NEWSLETTER Dear Friends: The OCTOBER CONTEST is up and ready for you. It concerns the upcoming Rockbottom Remainders tour. The prize maybe the best prize all year is a T-shirt autographed by every Remainder Dave Barry, Scott Turow, Stephen King, Amy Tan, Mitch Albom, James McBride and me. Ive been working with Mariel Hemmingway on some episodic TVideas, and I am now slated to join her in Hollywood to pitch one of the two new shows to a cable network. Mariels husband, Steve Crisman, and I are working on some forensic related documentaries (Steve produced the AA piece that I wrote that aired two summers ago) and a possible made-for-cable movie on animal rights. Long time friend, and former Boldt-possibility, Richard Dreyfuss, is starring in The Education of Max Bixford on CBS, Sunday nights. Wishmaker Films (youve got to love that name!) claims they are closer than ever to getting Undercurrents onto the silver screen. Theyre still attempting to raise money, but are making good progress. They are still taking my ideas for actors-in-roles, so go to the MESSAGE BOARD and make your suggestions. The more, the better. Michael Connelly is this years toastmaster at Bouchercon, the wonderful mystery readers conference (held in DC 2001). Ive had to withdraw due to conflicts with the Remainders tour, but to those of you going: have a great time. Wish I could be there. I am attending a writers conference in Wilmington, North Carolina, Oct. 26, 27. Maybe Ill see some of you there. Stay well,
