SEPTEMBER 2003 NEWSLETTER Our office phone and internet connections were struck by lightning this summer, so some time has passed between newsletters.... sorry about that. What a disaster on this end! Weeks of work to restore everything. Hyperion Books is planning a terrific contest for THE BODY OF DAVID HAYES (April 2003). Keep an eye on the site for more details as we have them. THIS CONTEST IS GOING TO KNOCK YOUR SOCKS OFF! When I can tell you more, I will... Dave Barry and I have signed with Disney Editions to co-write a prequel to Peter Pan. PETER AND THE STARCATCHERS is a result of my reading to Paige one night when she asked, "Daddy, how did Peter Pan meet Captain Hook?" I answered, "Paige... I think there's a book there..." And now there will be. Pub date: September 2004. Dave and I tour the novel and will be making an appearance at BEA 2004 in Chicago. More news to come. I'm still hard at work on THE THIRD KINGDOM: The Stonecutter's Quill, a young-adult novel for Disney Editions. I'm having a blast with it. ANIMAL PLANET has given producer Steve Crisman and me the "greenlight" to write and film a one hour documentary on the ASHLAND LAB - a forensics lab devoted entirely to investigating crimes against wildlife. These real-life stories will amaze you! More info as we have it. We plan to shoot in October. Work continues on the 2005 novel. I'm having a blast with it. A stand alone novel, I'm keeping its subject matter top-secret. But I'm thrilled with it so far. There are rumblings in the film and TV areas, but nothing concrete to report at this time. If I hear anything, we'll post it on the web site. All of it is exciting. Warren Zevon, who played for 3 years with the Rockbottom Remainders passed away last night and will be sorely missed by all. What a man, and what a talent. Rock-on, Warren... it was as honor playing on the same stage with him. ROCKBOTTOM REMAINDERS, in Austin, TX. November 8th!
